Home Oaxaca Coast Infrastructure Continued Investment and Progress of the Oaxaca Coastal Highway 200 Continued Investment and Progress of the Oaxaca Coastal Highway 200 by Brent May February 24, 2023 by Brent May 117 If you’ve been to Huatulco or Puerto Escondido recently, you’ve noticed the progress in the highway construction project on the coastal Highway 200. In 2020, most of the project of the new 4-lane highway between Puerto Escondido and Pochutla was completed excepting a small section near the intersection of Pochutla. Now, other major sections including overpasses between Pochutla and Huatulco are complete or nearing completion continuing to reduce travel time and make for a better travel experience. With a cost of 166.80 million pesos from the federal government budget, construction of the Santa María Huatulco overpass junction has been completed. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) of the Government of Mexico carried out this part of the Highway 200 modernization project through the Highway Construction and Modernization Program. During construction, more than 1,200 jobs were generated (300 direct and 900 indirect). When it comes into full operation it will benefit 921,000 inhabitants of the communities of San Pedro Mixtepec, Santa María Colotepec, Santa María Tonameca, San Pedro Pochutla and Santa María Huatulco spanning the length of this section of the highway between Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. The overarching project consists of: MAIN SECTION (PUERTO ESCONDIDO – HUATULCO) -A 539.83 m long vehicular bridge (including accesses) with a width of 12 m (2 lanes of 3.5 m and external shoulders of 2.5 m). – 2 lateral lanes parallel to the Vehicle Bridge with a width of 9 m each (1 lane of 5.5 m, external shoulders of 2.5 m and internal shoulders of 1 m). INTERSECTION (SANTA MARÍA – SAN AGUSTÍN) – 4 lanes of 3.5 m and 2 shoulders of 2.5 m for a width of 19 m. RETURNS – 2 turns, one for each direction, with a 10 m lane and external and internal shoulders of 1 m, for a width of 12 m. Construction and improvement continue as the Government of Mexico, through the SICT, invests in the Oaxaca Coast. The Highway 200 project is improving the quality of life, boosting the local economy and tourism development in the coastal area and generating shorter travel times. 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail Brent May Brent May is the GM and Founder of Mexico Living.
